The Tasmanian University Psychology Society (TUPS) operates in accordance with a formal Constitution, supported by By-Laws and a Code of Conduct. Together, these documents guide how the Society is governed, how decisions are made, and how members and committee are expected to engage with one another.
These documents exist to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in all aspects of TUPS operations.
The TUPS Constitution outlines the foundational structure of the Society. It defines:
The purpose and objectives of TUPS
Membership categories and rights
Committee roles and election processes
General Meetings and voting procedures
Financial governance and accountability
The Constitution is the highest governing document of the Society and can only be amended in accordance with the procedures outlined within it, typically through member approval at an Annual General Meeting.
The TUPS By-Laws provide additional operational detail and guidance to support the Constitution. By-Laws are used to clarify processes that may need to adapt over time, such as:
Committee operations and responsibilities
Conflict resolution procedures
Use of technology and communication platforms
Financial and administrative processes
By-Laws allow the Society to remain flexible while still operating within a clear governance framework.
The TUPS Code of Conduct sets out the expected standards of behaviour for all members, committee members, volunteers, and event attendees. It exists to promote:
Respectful and inclusive engagement
Professional conduct across all TUPS platforms
Safe and supportive environments for students
All committee members are required to acknowledge and sign the Code of Conduct upon commencing their term.
